My name is Gopal Ramchurn and I’m a Lecturer at the School of Electronics and Computer Science, University of Southampton, UK. You can find more about me on my homepage.

This blog is about my interest in developing agent-based systems for the smart grid. Having worked on different aspects of agent-based systems as part of a large research group, I have built a reasonably wide background on agent-based systems which points me to say that the smart grid will be the first killer app for multi-agent systems.  The advent of smart meters is likely to cause this breakthrough mainly because of the complexity of managing individual’s preferences for energy consumption set against the task of managing collectives of such users on the wider grid. Hence, I’ll be posting my readings here.

Even though I’ve read a lot on the subject, I’m not a qualified power systems engineer and will probably make mistakes in the terminology I use which I preemptively appologise for.
